Chief Coordinator and Official Spokesman of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Bangladesh Mohiuddin Ahmed in a press release issued today condemned the proposal to reduce the size of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) by 30% in the name of restructuring the force. Mohiuddin Ahmed said if the proposal is implemented, the defence forces of the country in general and the border forces in particular will become weak and the border of the country will stay unprotected. The imperialists and their agents wanted to weaken defence forces of the country through the Pilkhana killings in February. The plan to reduce workforce of BDR by 30% is a continuation of the same conspiracy.

The people are aware that in the last six months, after the Pilkhana tragedy, BDR is performing its duties in the border areas without sufficient arms and ammunitions. At the same time India’s Border Security Force (BSF) is killing innocent Muslims almost every day. Just yesterday BSF fired more than 30 shots in two villages of Panchagar in the middle of the night in response to which BDR could only send a ‘protest letter’. In such circumstances when we actually need to increase the manpower of BDR and strengthen the force, current government and the BDR Chief Major General Mainul Islam are proposing to reduce manpower along with changing the name and uniform of the force. This will only benefit the polytheist enemy India who in the meantime has increased her defence budget by 24%.

Mohiuddin Ahemd said Muslims will never accept the plan to weaken the defence forces of the country. Hizb ut-Tahrir in Bangladesh invites the aware people and the people of power to unite on the basis of Islam and establish the Khilafah which will strengthen the defence forces of the country and ensure security of its citizen.
